Late summer has a definite mood to it. The weather is still warm, hot even, but there’s sometimes a coolness in the air when the sun is down.
Crickets and Katydids are louder than they were before. Something is going on, you can tell it while walking out in the country.
Grasses are lush and prominent.
There are some different wildflowers blooming, heralding a change to come.
They join the high summer blooms, mixing in with more familiar sights.
Prairie flowers are peaking- but more about them in a post coming soon.
Birds are singing less than they were earlier in the summer. While some late-nesters are still at work, some early migrators have started south already.
Change is coming. Although early autumn may hold onto some of summer’s warmth, enjoy it while you can…the seasons will be changing, as always.
Lovely photos! I love the woodland (2nd shot) especially. What is the bright yellow bird? The season is changing here too, nights drawing in, some chilly misty mornings already.
Thanks Jo! The bright yellow bird singing is a male American Goldfinch, they are late nesters and are active this time of year- they like making their nests out of thistle, which is blooming now.
A lovely look at late summer!!
Many thanks!
What a glorious time of year, and how beautifully you’ve captured its images…thank you!
Thank you, Kitty!
Your turning year looks a bit cheerier than ours does at the moment.
Cheer is on the way, Tootlepedal- somewhere, anyway!
We’ve got a bountiful crop of berries, grapes and apples this year so the birds and animals are loving life. The Old Farmer’s Almanac says it’ll be a cold September with early frosts for some.
The Almanac is calling for a cold and snowy winter- we had a mild one last year so we may be due!
You have captured this so well, it is as if I was just out for a walk myself! : )
Many thanks, Jen!
Just beautiful!
Thanks Robin! It’ll be cooling off soon enough!
One of our favorite places. Nice pics!
Thanks Robert!
Hi Seasons, I have nominated your really great blog for the Leibster Award! I’ll be posting details this weekend. Have a super Saturday, and congratulations!
Many thanks, Wildlifewatcher!
Hi Tracy. I love the colour of the Jewelweed. The pond looks like one at my family home, island and all. Jane
The Hummingbirds are especially fond of the Jewelweed before leaving on migration 🙂
