White-Tailed Deer
September is a good month for seeing mother deer and their young. I was out at Alum Creek State Park this morning, and happened upon a doe and her two fawns walking along a path. I stood silently and took photos as they went by me- mom was confident but kept an eye on me, the first fawn to follow her was a bit nervous, the second fawn probably felt cut off, and raced by me to gain the reassurance of being with the rest of the family. A couple walking along the path stopped to watch them with me. All was well and the family wandered across the field into the woods. It was a great experience, seeing nature so handsome and up close.
Very cool photos of this deer family!
Thanks, Joleen!
Amazing photos. I have several deer that come into my yard and feed; they have each staked out their own territory. They certainly won’t let you get close, but they don’t seem to have any fear either.
Sounds like you have a great yard, Charlie!
Great still and action shots. Love the perky tail that stands up straight. They are beautiful animals.
Deer have such interesting body language, Patti! I never tire of watching them 🙂
Awww, so pretty! I love deer. I really enjoyed these beautiful photos!
Pretty indeed- thanks, Karen!
A lovely series. They are such beautiful animals.
I was lucky they walked by at the time I was standing still near the trail, Pat!
A well taken opportunity.
Every once in a while it all works, out, Tootlepedal!
Very nice–I am surprised by how small the youngsters still are…
That’s a good point, Inger- I wonder if this doe had her fawns in the summer?
Wow, what a magical experience! You got some great photos!
Thanks, Jo! It was wonderful seeing them so close 🙂
Nice shots!
Thanks, Gardener!
Truly a gift. Beautiful captures!
Thanks, Margie!
Wonderful shots, Tracy – they really tell the story of the experience. We have deer everywhere here, they have a run right outside our fence and they often come to drink in the birdbath in the open part of the yard. Beautiful but unfortunately a source of ticks; I had a preventative treatment for Lyme’s disease this summer so I’ve become extra careful.
I know what you mean about the ticks, Composer- not only is Lyme Disease a problem but the occasional case of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever can be found even in Ohio. I try to stick to non-grassy trails whenever I can when I’m out hiking…a couple of times I’ve been off-path and picked up a few ticks on the outside of my clothing- I don’t want to repeat that.
Hi Seasons, Wow! Great photographs of the White-tailed Deer. We apparently do have deer here in Marion County, FL, but alas, I have not yet seen any. Few and well hidden. Of course, there are a lot more people around than back in Crossville, TN. Have a super week ahead!
Many thanks and keep an eye out Wildlifewatcher, I’m sure you’ll spot them!
What a treat.
It was great!
