April is a time when spring is busy re-creating the green world, a month full of renewal and promise.
Trees are leafing out after winter’s long sleep.
The undergrowth in the woods is greening, growing and thickening.
Spring’s floral procession is advancing quite nicely, with many short-lived blooms coming and going.
And not everything bright and colorful is a flower.
Lots of birds are courting and nesting.
Some can be spotted in familiar places once again.
Other birds are returning from far countries- spring migration is underway.
Other creatures are stirring in the nice weather.
It’s an exciting time of year for people too!
This completes the 12 months of Ohio. To check out the whole series as well as other topics, visit the Blog Index page. I hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Great post, it looks like your area is a few weeks ahead of us here, thanks for reminding me of what’s to come!
The warblers have been coming through here this past week- many are on their way to Michigan!
Congratulations on 12 months of Ohio. Thanks for sharing all the beauty, Ellen
Thanks, Ellen!
What a beautiful collection of photos. Well done, Tracey. 🙂
It has been amazing my friend! This is a beautiful group of photos too. Margie
Hi. I love the paths in your photos, also that industrious little robin! Jane
I like taking photos of paths (human or animal)- maybe that could be the theme of a future post!
Spring at last! We’re still waiting over here in the UK but not long now… Nice photos.
Thanks Pete! I always enjoy your travels at http://petebuckley.wordpress.com/
Beautiful shots. Yes, it is a lovely spring.
Enjoyed seeing your great photos.
A fine set of pictures. I liked number two particularly.
Thanks for showing me a real “Spring” … it is very pretty. It snowed here again this weekend … it made for a photo opportunity, but I am tired of white.
The snow can’t last forever, Bearyweather!
Always enjoy your posts. Thanks.
This has been a wonderful experience, visiting your year of Ohio blogs. I’ve learned so much about my neighbors. 🙂 Thank You
Thanks Robin 🙂
It’s so much fun to follow along – the seasons, the photos, your wanderings! Thank you!
Spring has always been my favorite season. Thanks for showing me a preview of what we’ll have in a week or two.
Beautiful series! Here we are now finally getting into the green season too.
March was like May. April is like March. I see mostly the nature that is in my backyard, literally. Your blog shows me what’s “out there.” Hope the plants and critters can deal with upcoming frosts and freezes.
Your lovely spring is a little bit ahead of ours, but we are catching up! I especially like the picture of the shelf mushrooms surrounded by all that greenery…
Lovely photos, the trees are out more than ours here in W PA. Great to see everything green and growing except the garlic mustard – lovely to see, good to eat, but deadly for the butterflies who mistake it for violets and lay their eggs on it and thereby doom them to starvation. I’m still pulling it up by the roots in my garden, sigh.
Great series from start to finish.
Thanks W.S….great series…and tone-deaf me, I didn’t know it was a series…never been to Ohio…just through…so I haven’t spent a lot of time there…so this was a real treat…series or not I completely enjoyed it…we are a bit ahead down here in Arkansas…but miss the midwest…sending you some birds after they stop off here…thanks again…
Thanks for the birds, Jim! 😀
Beautiful images! What are the two bird species pictured under the bit about spring migrants?
Jo, the first image is a Baltimore Oriole and the second one is a Yellow-Throated Warbler. The Orioles are just starting to show up, and the Yellow-Throateds have been singing in the woods along rivers for the last 10 days or so. They’re gorgeous birds, though they can be a little hard to photograph well!
Thanks for the info – what gorgeous birds!
I’ve enjoyed it very much. Well done. 🙂
Thanks for the great comments everyone!
